With the latest Google algorithm update, mobile-friendly has again taken the center stage. Google announced that they are “boosting the ranking of mobile-friendly pages on mobile search results” in their April 21st Google webmaster blog article. This update, dubbed “Pigeon” has had the internet abuzz for months and before this official announcement it was unclear how the update would affect rankings.
How has this affected overall SEO? The results are still unclear but our guess is that the effects will become most clear over the next 3-6 months. However, for local business owners, the data coming in suggests that organic results seem to be favoring you over your big multi-location brands to the tune of 5-10%.
The good news is that Google has provided an easy way to check if your website meets their mobile standards through an online (and FREE) Google mobile-friendly website test. If you have access to your Google analytics account, you can also check the status of your entire site using the Mobile Usability report in Webmaster Tools.
