Ventura County State of the County Event Videos
Ventura County State of the County Event Videos
Ventura County’s 150th anniversary ended with a State of the County event at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley. This event showcased the county’s progress through event videos produced by Searle Creative. These event videos each captured a different facet of Ventura County life: Safe, Healthy Communities; Homelessness and Housing; and Economic Vitality.
The creation of these videos was no small feat. Each subject required meticulous planning and coordination. The Searle Creative team embarked on an extensive production schedule. Filming took place over several days at a variety of locations throughout Ventura County. These locations ranged from the scenic Limoneira to the high-tech Rotocraft Support, Inc., and Fathomwerx. Each site offered a unique backdrop that enriched the narrative. The team also visited the County of Ventura Government Center and the Ventura County Air Unit, among others.
Searle Creative conducted interviews with county staff, local business owners, and residents, gathering diverse perspectives that added depth to the videos. We captured stunning B-roll and aerial drone footage to help visually narrate the county’s story. Once production wrapped, an equally detailed editing process began. Working with county employees, the Searle team polished each event video to perfection, aligning the visuals of each with the compelling stories they aimed to tell.
Searle Creative and Ventura County’s dedication was honored with a CAPIO Edge Award of Distinction in Spring 2024. This award recognizes the videos’ exceptional quality and celebrates Ventura County’s achievements and future vision.
Project Categories:
00:00:01:14 - 00:00:06:10
The company has been successful,
and a very big part of its success
00:00:06:10 - 00:00:09:15
is because of our proximity to the Pacific
Ocean.
00:00:10:01 - 00:00:12:18
The ideal climate here in Ventura County,
00:00:12:18 - 00:00:15:23
and just the ease
in which we're able to do business here.
00:00:16:09 - 00:00:19:13
Everything that makes California
great is found here in Ventura County,
00:00:19:20 - 00:00:21:06
whether it's our beaches
00:00:21:06 - 00:00:25:07
or mountains or open space
or trails, we've got waterfalls,
00:00:25:07 - 00:00:27:00
just about everything
that we could ever want.
00:00:27:00 - 00:00:30:19
Ventura County has a wonderful economy,
enormously diverse,
00:00:30:19 - 00:00:34:11
everything from biotech,
health, tech, agriculture.
00:00:34:12 - 00:00:35:16
We have construction.
00:00:35:16 - 00:00:39:22
We have the naval base, health services,
professional, technical,
00:00:40:05 - 00:00:44:04
scientific, manufacturing,
leisure and hospitality.
00:00:44:04 - 00:00:46:12
We have everything in Ventura County.
00:00:46:12 - 00:00:49:18
One of our great
economic engines is the port of one Amy.
00:00:49:22 - 00:00:54:00
It's the only deep water port
between Los Angeles and San Francisco.
00:00:54:02 - 00:00:57:14
Huge imports and exports
there, particularly automobiles
00:00:57:14 - 00:01:01:06
and fresh
fruits, is a driver for our economy
00:01:01:13 - 00:01:04:12
and for the trade
and commerce of the region.
00:01:04:12 - 00:01:06:12
Fallon works
as an innovation and prototyping lab.
00:01:06:12 - 00:01:09:23
We're partnered with Matter Labs,
Economic Development Collaborative,
00:01:10:01 - 00:01:13:16
Nancy, Nasdaq, the Port of Wine Navy,
as well as Navy Air.
00:01:13:21 - 00:01:16:10
Our experience
working at the county has been amazing
00:01:16:10 - 00:01:19:12
with all the different agencies getting
involved, us and fully supporting us.
00:01:19:14 - 00:01:23:00
We have two amazing Navy bases
locally that are generating
00:01:23:00 - 00:01:27:12
all kinds of innovation
in the areas of aerospace and aviation,
00:01:27:16 - 00:01:31:12
including collision avoidance technology,
unmanned systems
00:01:31:12 - 00:01:34:20
both in the air, on the water
and below the water.
00:01:34:20 - 00:01:37:20
And all of this together
is incredible synergy
00:01:37:23 - 00:01:40:07
that's going to drive
the technologies of the future.
00:01:40:07 - 00:01:44:05
I think Ventura County does have the kind
of culture that does foster innovation.
00:01:44:12 - 00:01:48:02
If you look at the pockets
around the world where innovative people
00:01:48:04 - 00:01:51:19
cluster or structures
to sort of be together,
00:01:52:04 - 00:01:55:08
you typically find that they do it
in places they enjoy living.
00:01:57:00 - 00:01:57:12
Quality of
00:01:57:12 - 00:02:00:16
life in Ventura County is really,
really important.
00:02:00:16 - 00:02:03:16
It's important
to every single person that lives here.
00:02:05:03 - 00:02:08:19
Rotorcraft support is a full service
helicopter maintenance facility.
00:02:08:22 - 00:02:12:07
In 2020,
we moved our facility into Ventura County.
00:02:12:12 - 00:02:13:19
We've been able to expand.
00:02:13:19 - 00:02:17:23
We've been able to add new equipment,
innovations that we weren't able
00:02:17:23 - 00:02:19:19
to do in our previous location.
00:02:19:19 - 00:02:23:10
And also, in order for our employees
to have a better quality of life
00:02:23:15 - 00:02:28:03
and finding the right employees
from Ventura County,
00:02:28:06 - 00:02:32:09
the county government,
can can places a priority job creation.
00:02:32:09 - 00:02:35:14
We're focusing on trying to find ways
to streamline permitting.
00:02:35:16 - 00:02:39:13
We want to also be the strongest
proponents for our community.
00:02:40:00 - 00:02:40:22
One of the great things
00:02:40:22 - 00:02:45:00
about doing business in Ventura County
is that we offer a valuable resources
00:02:45:06 - 00:02:49:15
to enable women owned businesses to drive
through business for Ventura County.
00:02:50:00 - 00:02:54:00
We've made it so much easier
through our partnership with the EDC
00:02:54:07 - 00:02:57:01
and the We've Women economic ventures
00:02:57:01 - 00:03:01:01
and other economic organizations
throughout Ventura County.
00:03:01:13 - 00:03:04:12
We have great schools, high
performing public schools.
00:03:04:12 - 00:03:07:08
We have renowned institutions
of higher learning.
00:03:07:08 - 00:03:10:18
We are a safe community,
and we prioritize safety
00:03:10:18 - 00:03:13:22
not only in our homes, at workplace,
but in our schools.
00:03:14:08 - 00:03:18:16
And so all of these things are drivers
that attract the next generation
00:03:19:04 - 00:03:22:09
of industries,
particularly in tech and innovation.
00:03:22:20 - 00:03:28:00
And we are prepared to be the next place
for that group of jobs to expand.
00:03:28:09 - 00:03:31:06
This is really one of the most
beautiful places on the planet.
00:03:31:06 - 00:03:33:18
So had the opportunity
to operate our business here,
00:03:33:18 - 00:03:36:18
which we've now done
successfully for over 130 years.
00:03:36:22 - 00:03:38:20
It's, it's really an ideal situation.
00:03:38:20 - 00:03:41:20
And if I had a chance to talk
to any CEO in the world, I'd tell them
00:03:41:20 - 00:03:44:10
this is the best place
to run your company.
00:03:44:10 - 00:03:46:16
It's really
the perfect place to to live and work.
00:00:00:00 - 00:00:01:17
I hear from members of the community
00:00:01:17 - 00:00:05:13
every day expressing their concerns
with issues in Ventura County.
00:00:05:13 - 00:00:09:08
And by far, the number one concern
I hear about is homelessness.
00:00:09:09 - 00:00:14:18
Many people feel that those that are
homeless are addicted to drugs
00:00:14:18 - 00:00:20:03
or have severe mental illness, or simply
do not want to work, and that's not true.
00:00:20:10 - 00:00:24:08
So in our experience,
everyone could experience homelessness.
00:00:24:12 - 00:00:26:16
It's a Goldilocks of counties.
00:00:26:16 - 00:00:29:10
We have urban, suburban and rural.
00:00:29:10 - 00:00:32:21
So all the programs need to fit
within the needs of the communities.
00:00:32:21 - 00:00:37:06
And so with our continuum of care,
we have really worked with our cities
00:00:37:06 - 00:00:40:07
to partnership on items
such as homelessness.
00:00:40:16 - 00:00:43:18
And how do we get services and housing.
00:00:44:01 - 00:00:45:03
How do we do it right?
00:00:45:03 - 00:00:48:06
We need strong partnerships, particularly
00:00:48:06 - 00:00:51:06
with our nonprofit organizations,
with faith based communities.
00:00:51:12 - 00:00:52:19
because working together,
00:00:52:19 - 00:00:55:17
we accomplished so much more than just
government working alone.
00:00:59:12 - 00:01:00:13
Many mansions.
00:01:00:13 - 00:01:04:17
I was formed over 45 years ago,
and we work with the county in terms
00:01:04:21 - 00:01:07:21
of developing
funding for new affordable housing,
00:01:07:21 - 00:01:11:10
but also providing
those financial resources to provide
00:01:11:10 - 00:01:15:20
On-Site supportive services for those
that have experienced homelessness.
00:01:16:00 - 00:01:19:05
Bringing the services there, getting them
the needs they need
00:01:19:05 - 00:01:25:02
and then hopefully lower cost to our tax
payers and better care for our residents.
00:01:25:03 - 00:01:27:00
The Rancho Sierra Apartments,
00:01:27:00 - 00:01:31:09
a represents another close collaboration
between many mansions,
00:01:31:13 - 00:01:34:20
the Area Housing Authority
and the County of Ventura.
00:01:35:08 - 00:01:38:11
It is affordable
housing specific, designed
00:01:38:16 - 00:01:41:11
for seniors experiencing homelessness.
00:01:41:11 - 00:01:47:04
Our modular units are constructed offsite
and then transported to the site,
00:01:47:05 - 00:01:51:05
whether it's a modular build
or a ground up build.
00:01:51:10 - 00:01:54:15
We have to do what's right
for where our community's needs are.
00:01:54:18 - 00:01:59:17
It's going to be a beautiful, innovative
create of a living environment
00:01:59:20 - 00:02:04:21
for our seniors, with onsite programs
specifically designed for seniors
00:02:05:00 - 00:02:09:01
that we advocate
not only on the city level, county level,
00:02:09:06 - 00:02:12:14
but state and federal
to to ensure that we're utilizing
00:02:12:14 - 00:02:16:03
all the dollars that we can get
for the needs of our communities.
00:02:16:04 - 00:02:20:10
There's a brighter things on the horizon
when it comes, to providing services.
00:02:20:10 - 00:02:24:08
And ultimately solutions are to those
who are unhoused in our community.
00:00:11:05 - 00:00:12:08
We create a safe
00:00:12:08 - 00:00:16:14
community by working collaboratively
with all our agencies here
00:00:16:14 - 00:00:20:08
in Ventura County, with dedicated
and committed professionals.
00:00:20:13 - 00:00:23:16
And I am so proud to say that we have
00:00:23:16 - 00:00:27:15
exceptional first responders
working all across our agencies.
00:00:27:23 - 00:00:30:19
This aviation
unit in the state of California.
00:00:30:19 - 00:00:34:06
You will be hard pressed to find anybody
that does what we do, the way we do it,
00:00:34:10 - 00:00:37:10
to bring the people we have together
the fire captains, the firefighters,
00:00:37:10 - 00:00:40:07
the fire paramedics, the volunteer
search and rescue paramedics,
00:00:40:07 - 00:00:41:07
the sheriff's deputies.
00:00:41:07 - 00:00:43:01
You're not going to find this
anywhere else in United States.
00:00:43:01 - 00:00:47:18
When we are collaborating across agencies
to understand what the needs are.
00:00:47:18 - 00:00:51:20
We are going to be better
prepared to answer to those needs,
00:00:51:20 - 00:00:53:04
whether it's through
00:00:53:04 - 00:00:56:05
behavioral health, through programs
that are reaching our community,
00:00:56:05 - 00:00:59:19
whether it's someone going into our
hospital for emergency care.
00:01:01:20 - 00:01:03:07
It was 4th of July.
00:01:03:07 - 00:01:07:06
We were getting ready to go to the park
when she came out of the car
00:01:07:17 - 00:01:08:23
on the freeway.
00:01:08:23 - 00:01:11:13
We are in no time.
00:01:11:13 - 00:01:14:20
The ambulance came and took us
00:01:14:20 - 00:01:18:04
straight to the county hospital
in Ventura County.
00:01:18:05 - 00:01:24:10
We have two hospitals, one of which
has a great pediatric intensive care unit.
00:01:24:11 - 00:01:27:11
They just started working on her
and working on her.
00:01:27:12 - 00:01:31:22
And that didn't stop the nurses that came
to pick her up from the helicopter.
00:01:32:11 - 00:01:35:21
The people who first received her
into the emergency department,
00:01:36:12 - 00:01:39:07
they all played a vital role
00:01:39:07 - 00:01:42:02
in her, in her survival.
00:01:42:02 - 00:01:46:17
But her county is fortunate
to have people who care very deeply.
00:01:46:22 - 00:01:50:00
They sacrifice their families
to help other families like us.
00:01:50:15 - 00:01:52:22
That's that's happy.
00:01:52:22 - 00:01:57:01
We got an opportunity to come back
and see those faces and thank them.
00:01:57:18 - 00:01:59:21
I've been on the receiving end
of those phone calls.
00:01:59:21 - 00:02:01:12
Families reach out to you.
00:02:01:12 - 00:02:04:02
You brought my daughter home.
You sent my father home.
00:02:04:02 - 00:02:07:09
We all came into public service
to serve the citizens of Ventura County.
00:02:07:20 - 00:02:11:08
Everyone shows up here ready, willing
and able to do whatever is called for.
00:02:11:14 - 00:02:14:08
It's phenomenal what we can achieve here
together for this county,
00:02:14:08 - 00:02:15:01
for the people who live here.
