OC Sanitation Website

The Orange County Sanitation District (OC San) is a Southern California public agency that provides state-of-the-art wastewater collection, treatment, and recycling for over 2.6 million residents in Orange County, California. This website redesign project included robust planning, oversight, and collaboration across multiple stakeholders and distributed teams.

With more than 200 live pages, the site’s reorganization required a clear strategy to streamline navigation. This included implementing a new mega-menu layout to improve accessibility and usability. The design process featured a modern home page and flexible interior page templates, balancing visual appeal with functionality. Complex data was structured for ease of use, incorporating custom document filtering systems, post structures, and interactive news and calendar feeds. ADA best practices were followed to ensure accessibility, alongside mobile optimization for a seamless user experience on all devices.

Multiple wireframes were created for various sections, accompanied by detailed annotations and instructions for the development team. Weekly meetings across teams and stakeholders kept the project on track and aligned with the overall vision. Custom icons and subtle animations enhanced the visual experience, making the site both engaging and user-friendly.

The result is a functional, intuitive, and visually engaging website. It effectively supports OC San’s mission while meeting the needs of its diverse audience.
