My name is Joey Gummere. I own, Transcendence Winery with my wife, Sarah, and we've been running this business now for 17 years. It is so fun to make wine with Joey, and it's so fun to be in business with him as well. I love the diversity that you get every year and the challenge that you get from from making the wine.

We dream big. We go all in and we take it home. We take it on vacation, we take our big dreams with us wherever we go. And so we're kind of always thinking about what's next. Transcendence started in 2006, and for us, Transcendence was to take fine wine and do sort of philanthropic work. Everything was donated every year for the first three years.
00:00:58:01 - 00:01:12:21
We chose the name Transcendence for our winery because if it's going to take a little bit of effort, we're going to go above and beyond that effort to make it even a better product and a better experience for our customers.
00:01:12:23 - 00:01:31:01
That's the beauty of wine, because there's so many stylistic choices that you make starting out in the vineyard. You know when someone feels the fruit is ripe. It's super subjective to the winemaker. If you want to see who the winemakers are and go to the vineyards.

What makes Santa Ynez Valley so unique is that it runs east west. And so you have in the Santa Rita Hills, you have Pinot Noir and Syrah, Chardonnay, great varietals. And as you move further east, you have Grenache, a little bit warmer climate Syrah. And then as you go into Happy Canyon AVA, then that's where you're going to get your Bordeauxs, your Cabernet Sauvignon.
00:01:55:02 - 00:02:08:21
And so at Transcendence, we're able to make a diversity of varietals because of the diversity of the valley that we live in. It's really, really unique. Really in the world.

Our vision for our tasting room has always been to create a wonderful community environment. I would say it's the opposite of a stuffy tasting room. You can come into Transcendence and feel like you've been there before, and people know you even though they don't. It's just a very welcoming, warm environment. When we moved over to Lompoc, we realized that not only is it great for a winery, but the community is amazing.
00:02:34:19 - 00:03:04:01
It's been a fantastic place for not only the winery, but also to raise a family. It's a wonderful location. The weather is absolutely perfect. The Lompoc community is everything I've ever wanted for home to feel like.
