Understanding Four Color Printing and PMS Spot Colors

In the graphic design industry, CMYK and PMS are part of our second language, but to a business owner wondering why his t-shirt vendor is asking what spot color to use but his jpg logo file is just fine for the business card printing he’s sending to uprinting.com, there may be some ‘splaining to do.

In four-color printing (aka full color printing), all the color you see on paper are a combination of four colors: Cyan (C), M (Magenta), Yellow (Y), and Black (K).  These four colors are applied individually on press, one at a time via “plates,” as microscopic dots of color in just the right A microscopic view of CMYK in printplaces. All the colors of the rainbow, (bazillions of different colors!), from vibrant photos to that red in your logo, are created when your eyeballs put together those microscopic dots into images and color. If you ever get a chance, look at a print piece through a magnifying glass or loupe and check it out.

Google Pigeon update and what it means for your website SEO

With the latest Google algorithm update, mobile-friendly has again taken the center stage.  Google announced that they are “boosting the ranking of mobile-friendly pages on mobile search results” in their April 21st Google webmaster blog article. This update, dubbed “Pigeon” has had the internet abuzz for months and before this official announcement it was unclear how the update would affect rankings.

How has this affected overall SEO? The results are still unclear but our guess is that the effects will become most clear over the next 3-6 months. However, for local business owners, the data coming in suggests that organic results seem to be favoring you over your big multi-location brands to the tune of 5-10%. (more…)
