Searle Creative Wins Two GOLD ADDY Awards

Searle Creative Wins Two GOLD ADDY Awards

On Sunday, March 19 we were privileged to attend the 2017 ADDY Awards luncheon, hosted by the Coastal California chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAF). Searle had entered two websites into this competition for the “best of” advertising and marketing in Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties. We are so excited to share that our sites for Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce (www.catalinachammber.com) and Moreno Valley Economic Development (www.morenovalleybusiness.com) were each honored with a GOLD AWARD for Consumer Website and Business-to-Business Website, respectively. Even better was that we had a lovely time at the luncheon and got to see wonderful creative work as well as meet some pretty terrific people in the industry. Thank you AAF and Mark Landon, chair of the American Advertising Awards Coastal California, for putting on such a great event!

How We “Do” Online Marketing

How We “Do” Online Marketing

Online marketing is sometimes a tough topic to wrap your head around. It’s a robust, evolving marketing channel with its own subchannels and mini-channels all wrapped up in statistics and data and covered in metrics gravy – well, it sometimes makes my brain explode too.

The good news is that online marketing is the most measurable marketing tactic you can wield in your arsenal. The more you put into it, the more you get out of it. Sure it’s complex, but you can measure it and tweak it and respond to it almost instantaneously so you always know what’s working and what isn’t. Which is heavenly for marketers who really have NO idea how many people REALLY looked at that last glossy print ad.

We made this fun explainer video to see if this would help clients understand online marketing and how we do it. Enjoy!

New Website Launched for Ventura Harbor Village

New Website Launched for Ventura Harbor Village

After launching the new VenturaHarbor.com website in 2014, Searle Creative was tasked with re-imagining a new online experience to visitors of the Ventura Harbor Village. The new site needed to be mobile-friendly, engaging and reflect the laid-back, fun nature of a visit to the Village.

With thousands of visitors every year, the site is built on a scaleable website platform. Features of the new website include a fun, interactive design with a robust CMS powering the event calendar, banner ad system, business listings, local weather, Instagram and custom training videos that allow staff to easily manage their website content. Custom business listings feature Google map integration, social media, image management and gallery, categorization and mobile phone optimization.Ventura Harbor Responsive Website

Finding the Right Hosting

Finding the Right Hosting

Many clients are in the dark when it comes to hosting. I bought my domain name, isn’t that enough? What else do I have to do? What do I need? Can’t I just sign up on GoDaddy? (Please don’t.)

When you register your domain name, you are basically buying the rights to use that specific URL… but it’s not the same as a hosting plan. That’s what you need when you want to actually build a website! The files that the interwebs see have to actually SIT somewhere, in order to be accessed. That’s hosting.

We can work with most any host – it’s up to you! The only thing we don’t recommend is hosting it yourself on your internal servers. Not only can it be tough to configure, you could be putting your whole internal drives at risk for hacking, and it’s not worth it.

One of our favorite hosts for WordPress hosting is WPEngine.com. It’s sort of Cadillac-level hosting – fast, secure, and quick restores.  Here’s a coupon if you want to start.

Get more qualified local leads

Get more qualified local leads

According to research, Mobile Ad Spending will Top $100 Billion Worldwide in 2016. Online marketing is BIG business and, as you’re probably aware, very competitive. Why is targeted online engagement so important? Simple – by creating a targeted client profile, you will learn what will attract your ideal customer or client.

There is a big difference between getting someone to connect with you online and engaging the RIGHT someone. You know you’re business and most clients come to us knowing exactly who they want to reach but are frustrated in their attempts to attract that right client – the one that converts into a paying customer and raving fan!

We’ve compiled a list of what some important things to consider when you’re trying to attract qualified local leads online:

1) Make sure your website is visible to search engines – Often a client will come to us and ask why they can’t find their site on the internet when they search. We ask several questions: have you checked to make sure you have Google analytics installed and registered your sitemap with Google webmaster tools? Does Bing know you exist? To ensure that the major search engines know you are open for business, you must make sure that your website is registered with them. The registration process is fairly straight forward but some parts (like creating an .xml sitemap for Google) might require assistance from a programmer.

2) Add your business to local directories – If you are a local business and you aren’t visible online, we ask several questions: Are you on Yelp and actively engaging your happy clients to receive reviews? Are you listed correctly in any local directories important to attracting your customer, like the Chamber of Commerce? Are your contact details consistent and is your business in the right category/subcategory? Have you created a Facebook page for your business and a Google listing? These are just some of the intentional actions engage in to begin cultivating your ideal client.

3) Know you’re online strategy – An engagement strategy is important for the online success of your business. You should be able to answer important questions about your ideal client or customer and how you find, engage and attract them online. How are you interacting with your fans and followers across your social media platform? Who is your ideal client and how do you talk to them? How often will you post to your blog and social media? What offers will attract your idea customer?

Whether you’re frustrated with your current online advertising or would like to learn more about how to engage your online audience, Searle Creative can assist you in strategically positioning your online presence for maximum impact.

Understanding Four Color Printing and PMS Spot Colors

Understanding Four Color Printing and PMS Spot Colors

In the graphic design industry, CMYK and PMS are part of our second language, but to a business owner wondering why his t-shirt vendor is asking what spot color to use but his jpg logo file is just fine for the business card printing he’s sending to uprinting.com, there may be some ‘splaining to do.

In four-color printing (aka full color printing), all the color you see on paper are a combination of four colors: Cyan (C), M (Magenta), Yellow (Y), and Black (K).  These four colors are applied individually on press, one at a time via “plates,” as microscopic dots of color in just the right A microscopic view of CMYK in printplaces. All the colors of the rainbow, (bazillions of different colors!), from vibrant photos to that red in your logo, are created when your eyeballs put together those microscopic dots into images and color. If you ever get a chance, look at a print piece through a magnifying glass or loupe and check it out.
